Well, my Honda Accord was stolen last week and all I had was $500 in cash to find a cheap replacement to get to work for a couple months, until I could finance something better. I found a 1993 Isuzu Rodeo, with a very nice body, but the engine made a sound when accelerated that sounded like coins being shaken in a tin can. I figured if I got it home in one piece, I could fix a screwed up push rod, which is what I suspected. If successful, I could make a good return on the vehicle. Well I drove it 95 miles home and came to within 1/4 mile of my exit, when the engine made a loud POP, the car died, blue smoke started rolling from the hood and I lost ALL my fluids at once (oil, water and coolant). It's been a very bad week and I went from very relieved.....to very discouraged in a matter of seconds. The Rodeo has a V-6 engine, manual tranny and 137,000 miles. Does anyone know what happened and what I can expect to go through as far as repairs? Any encouragement out there?

Well from what you've said, it sure doesn't sound good. Sleep on it & see what you've got in the morning. I probably wouldn't be investing a whole lot in this vehicle.

I wouldn't get my hopes up on that "push rod" scenario either since it likely doesn't have any. It should be an overhead cam engine. If the timing belt broke, you would have done some serious damage to the valves and maybe pistons. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
