Engine idles smoothly but stalls on acceleration Sign In

I have a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria with a 4.6 engine. This car was off the road for 2.5-3 months while I was doing bodywork on it. This car has 133122 miles on it and it has always ran very good. Now that I completed the bodywork and want to put it back on the road but I got a new problem. The car starts up and idles very smooth and doesn't stall. When I try to accelerate the engine, it stalls right away. Sometimes it will accelerate somewhat but it still stalls as if something was shuting off the gas flow. If while accelerating and it starts to die, if I let my foot off the pedal fast enough, the engine will return to a normal idle. Thinking that I have a gas flow problem, I replaced the inline fuel filter which is located on the frame, under the car. This action did not solve the problem. I read in my service manual(from Ford) that there's also another filter on the fuel pump which is inside the tank. Before I start thinking about removing, repairing, or replacing the pump from inside the tank, I would like some ideas or suggestions of other possible causes for my stalling problems. Note: I also replaced the air filter at the same time as the fuel filter. The "check engine light" finally came on while I was idling the car, but I can't drive it anywhere to have it scoped.

There are a couple of things that can act like that. A bad MAF or related intake parts is one or low fuel pressure would be another. I would use a fuel pressure gauge to determine if you pressure is holding to spec or not.
