Mercury Sable 1994 mileage 1508123 3.0l V6 Driving down the highway at 55mph, cruize control on, car started to act like I was driving up a steep hill, was on a flat road, it got hot, turned cruize off, it died and was steaming. It would not restart that night. Now it tries to start acts like timing is off. Got plenty of gas, got spark, oil looks good. The car usually goes through water.

"The car usually goes thru water" ?? Do you mean it usually consumes coolant? That needs to be addressed at once. Overheating can be caused by many things and will cause many more problems if ignored, T

If it's been using coolant there is a problem. Q. Where did it go? If no leaks are found head gaskets are highly suspect and continuing to overheat then opens a whole book of possible problems now and you still have the leak. I would start with finding that leak with a pressure test of cooling system, then a fuel pressure test. Heat may have hurt electronic engine controls that control about everything, timing, amount of fuel delivered etc., T
