I have a 95 Chevy ½ ton PU w/ 350. I checked the oil and it had sludge buildup on the dipstick. It was about 2qts low on oil. Been using GTX 20-50 oil so kind of surprized to see buildup though it has been awhile since I've changed or payed any attention to the oil. The engine has 138k miles on it. I felt inside valve covers through the filler hole and no sludge. PCV valve dirty but no sludge. Engine runs fine. I notice a increase in oil pressure to 60psi at cold startups. Been doing that for about a yr now. Warm it stays around 40psi. Someone told me to use a engine flush, but I was thinking to just leave well enough alone. If that stuff breaks off it could block passage ways. Any opinions? I’ve heard to use flush, ATF, and Kerosene. Not sure what to do if anything. Thanks, Len

I don't recommend engine flushing as I think it's too fast. Just change the oil frequently as it is a detergent but slower. Your oil pressures are ok so don't mess it up now. Look in oil cap for sludge and it may tell of how bad it is too. Clean the dipstick with steel wool and watch that this doesn't return.

I did buy a car totally sludged out but I wanted the car and did get it sludge free that way and it lasted a quarter a million miles, T
