Year - 1985
Make - Toyota
Model - 2 wheel drive Pick up
Engine Size - 22R efi
mileage - 237,000

The engine will not rev up past 1200 rpm this happened once before and I replaced the throttle position sensor and this fixed the problem but this time I did the same thing it has not fixed the problem. It Revs up to 1200 rpms and then falls back to idle and when you let up on the throttle you can get it right back up to 1100 or 1200 rpms but as soon as you try to rev it past that it falls right back to an idle. It starts great and has been a great running little pick up but this has me stumped everything else is running great? Anyone have a suggestion

John - Welcome to the site and right now IDK what to suggest but will try something.

This was a tricky year however this was mechanically a bit ahead IMO. It may have an RPM limiter that is confused.

A wild azz guess is if a TPS fixed identical problem before then perhaps wiring to it is the trouble? Does anything change if you leave it unplugged?

Just to clarify - are you saying you are pushing the throttle/gas pedal and engine just harmlessly returns to idle as if ignoring the request?

Can you rev it from underhood with a long screwdriver and make it go higher?

I tried to rev it up outside with the screw driver suggestion and it did not make a difference I have not tried it unplugged. Do you know if you can put the sensor in wrong? Thank you for your help.

Can they be put in wrong - some YES. You could try just watching the ohms smoothly change or take it out again if easy enough and make sure it is on/installed such that it get turned with the actual position of the throttle. The rod that turns throttle plates may have somehow broken and isn't really turning too so take a look that it really opens just by and with the engine off looking down/into throttle body,
