Engine Overheated Sign In

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2008 VW Passat 3.6 VR6 with 135k miles.
The engine overheated ( 260F) due to some issues I had with the radiator.

The shop told me:

It holds pressure in the coolant system when the engine is cold, once the engine warms up there is an excessive loss of pressure and the engine blows a ton of exhaust gas into the coolant.

They said my cylinder head must be cracked or warped, there is a chance the block is as well, so they suggested replacing the engine, which would cost almost as much as the car.

Did anyone had experience with an overheated engine?
Would it make sense to at least get the cylinder head off and check both the head and block with a straight edge, hoping that it's only the head gasket that needs replacement?

At this point, I might have to sell the car for parts

Any insight or opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes but not totally. There's a leak you wont know for sure till head is off if not seen obviously better either way send the head out for inspection or a fix of it and do still straight edge the block with the tool not some random hunk of metal and use a feeler gauge if you can't see clearly no warpage probably not but check,

I would heed his advice. You are just going to throw good money after bad trying to fix that.

I agree too. If there are exhaust gasses getting into the coolant system, with the mileage and possible cylinder wall/ring/and skirt damage, you're probably better off with a known good engine.
