ENGINE TROUBLE Sign In

I have a 2001 Ford Escape, I think its a 3.0 liter engine. It has over 140,000 miles on it. I had to have the engine replaced in 2011 because I was trying to get a tune-up, the guy botched the job, and set the car on fire instead! Now the check engine light flashes and the engine goes "putt-putt", when I start it. This problem started about 6 months ago. It has never stalled, although it sometimes seems to want to, it still drives ok. It wastes a lot of gas and the exhaust smells awful if you stand behind it. I have tried gas treatments, premium gas, and" shade tree" mechanics advice. One guy wanted to take it completely apart to find the problem. The auto parts machine says its one of the four pistons making the other three work harder cause it needs to be replaced. I know FORD has some recalls out with this truck. I would appreciate any advice you can give me, hope I get a cheap solution!

THANKS,
Mary

Re: ENGINE TROUBLE Sign In

You should stay away from non licensed repair shops and the wanna be mechanics. Take it to a reputable shop in the area that is licensed and insured. The money you wasted having Goober catching it on fire and the other guys playing "Let's see what happens when I do this." you could of had it diagnosed properly and fixed.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
