Confusion on the battery light

My battery light has come one and stayed on. It is a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis. I have replaced the battery the pos and neg terminals and put in a new alternator. Why is it my light comes on. My car completly died on the road.

Just a quick and common reason on this exact car - 5.0 EFI (only engine I know of available) had common issues with the main plug into the alternator. Two should be used that are different but this one was common to melt and cross us inside ruining alternators once warranty voided if not replaced!

Check both for heat damage or corrosion first,

(edit) you said you replaced pos and neg teminals which I think you meant at the battery? Not an immediate problem but if just cable ends and not whole cables those are almost always a temporary fix........

My connector to the altenator is different then that. Has a posative and negative posts and a 2 prong plug in. found out my External electronics regulaster was going bad.
