Chrysler 2.4 DOHC 4Cyl. missing at #4 cyl. Sign In

Hello, I have a 2001 Sebring LX sedan. My problems started with #3 injector not working. Installed new one to find out it was broken wires. Repaired wires. Things were fine for two weeks of my wife driving until I hit the interstate. Missing again. This time #4 stopped firing. All 4 injectors read 12 ohms. Replaced #4 anyway. Checked feed wire and got 5 volts as well as the other 3. Replace coil pack, plug wire and plug, all new. Still have miss. I think I hear a muffled piffing (air) sound between the motor and firewall. I'm really stumped.

What color is the feed wire? Either there is something wrong with your meter or you had it connected incorrectly. Injectors need 12 volts and computer ground triggering to work. The vehicle wouldn't run on 5 volts for injector supply voltage.

I'm using an Ideal 61-310 multi-meter. You're right about the feed voltage. It's shoving 14 volts at all injectors. Tested #3, got 14 volts at one wire and the other was dancing between 12 to 22 on volts reading while motor running. Tested #4 and it's getting 14 volts but the other wire is showing between 4 to 6 volts only. By unplugging #4 and putting it back, I can hear the injector start clicking again.
I'm no mechanic by any means. I quit being a mechanic when they did away with distributor, points and simple carbs. I still have the piffing sound on the back side of motor. It pulses as if compression leak Thank you for responding to my post. Looking forward to any help you can give me. Thanks again.

How does #4 spark plug look? Is it covered in raw fuel or dry as a bone?

Really can't check the ground side of the injector circuit with a volt meter because the switching by the computer's driver is happening faster than the meter updating its screen. You really need a lab scope to actually view the voltage signal. You can also use a NOID light just to see if the circuit is functional. Got to be careful with NOID lights because they don't require as much current to operate as an injector does. If you have a tired driver or some resistance in the injector circuit, you might not see it with a NOID light.

Are there any trouble codes stored in the engine computer? If so, what are the numbers?

The puffing sound could be because the cylinder is misfiring. You could perform a compression test on this, just to get an idea if the cylinder is able to produce enough pressure to support combustion. If you pull the ASD relay and crank the engine how does it sound while cranking? Sometimes you can hear a weak cylinder.

The spark plug is always wet and if motor is ran for a extended time, it will start smoking burning fuel in exhaust system. I have many codes that seems to change often. Using key for codes, I get 1684, 201, 204, 300,301,303,304, 351 and 352. Not displayed in that order. It starts with the 1684 then 201,352,351,204,300,301, 303 and 304. One thing i fail to mention is when the troubles began with #3, I had someone else working on it. After he replaced #3 injector everything was fine and he showed me where someone else had put a jumper wire on #4 injector wires but he says he fixed that too and now jumper wire is no longer needed. No, I don't know exactly what he had done to it. The jumper wire from the internal fuse box still has voltage and when reapplied, makes no difference to the performance of the injector.

I believe you should start at the basics and perform a compression test first. It is possible that the #4 cylinder could be washed out, so don't worry if you have no compression on #4.
