Chevy Kodiak c4500 starting problem

I have a Chevy Kodiak c4500 with Isuzu 6.6L Duramax Engine 300 hp, diesel that will not start. The truck will not start without starting fluid, it will then run fine, but once it is turned off it will not start again without starting fluid. Any ideas? Thank you.

You do realize this has a manifold preheater right? You can blow up yourself and the truck doing this. Never use ether on this truck. It sounds like your preheater isn't working which is why you are able to post still, so check the fuses and relays for that system and see what you find. Are you plugging in the block heater?
