2001 Chevy Prizm 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 80,000 miles I have had this 2001 Prizm for 4 years. For the last 3 years, I have noticed that it burns oil. The problem has gotten progressively worse, and it is now burning about 1 quart for every 200 miles driven! The check engine light has been on for approximately the last year(ish). I took it to AutoZone and they said it could just be a bad sensor... TODAY, the check engine light began blinking while driving down the highway. The acceleration slowed significantly and I couldn't really get it to go faster than about 60mph, even trying to accelerate hard. Once off the highway, while doing some city driving the car was still difficult to accelerate and started "chugging" especially as I was going uphill. I have also noticed that the gas mileage has dropped significantly lately... I have been doing a lot more highway driving lately due to a 25+ mile commute (1 way) and have heard that these cars tend to burn more oil with highway driving. I'm afraid my car is dead... I knew it was going that way. Is there anything I can do, or is my engine shot?

You've been staring at a check engine light for a year! Autozone had nothing to tell you it seems and now lack of power could be clogged converters as the result of not tending to original problem. If burning oil that fast how many times has it run so low a low oil pressure warning (red oil can usually light) come on? I'm not there but would bet this engine has had it, T

I'm not really sure what you are looking for here? From what you've posted I can tell you that you've had a problem for a while that is now a serious problem..... The SES going from solid to flashing means the problem is getting real bad to the point of ruining your converter.... You haven't really done anything to it for a while and it doesn't sound like you really want to do too much. I pick this up by you not even telling us the codes you have. With such little info there is no realistic way to make a call on the engine one way or the other.... Burning a qt every 200 miles really tips the scales but bad valve seals & a bad oil sending unit will do that.... So don't take this as me being a wise guy but I honestly don't know what you are asking of us....
