Car splutters when I get over 2.3k RPMs? Sign In

Year of vehicle 2001
Make of vehicle Pontiac
Model of vehicle GT1
Engine size 3.4L
209,866

Ive basicly had everything in this car rebuilt, Brand new fuel pump, Spark Plugs, Wires, Fuel injectors, MAF Sensor, Even took it to a shop and they said it was the fuel pump, So I buy a new 1 and still splutters, Pump my Fuel Pressure gauge on and Fuel perssure is fine. It also gets REALLY hot really fast, Ill drive it for 5 miles open the hood and its like 500 degrees under there. So when i go to accelerate, I get above 2.3k RPMs it splutter loses power and and slowly picks up the speed, after this the Service Engine Soon Light starts flashing so it knows there is a problem, but Im going to get codes tomorrow and wondering if any of you guys maybe had this problem aswel?

I got p0300 witch is a random cylinder misfire? Most cases its spark plugs or wires, But I have them all changed? Only cheap fix I can think of are coil packs, Is there anyway that the cylinders are not fireing in the right order cause it to do this? Or should I get new coils?

A good scan tool will give you the misfire history so you can isolate which cylinders.

That tool is not even close to the quality you need for this. You're looking for more than just codes.

AayJay - Tell me what parts outlet will let you return electrical parts if they've been installed? Defective they would only give you another but not money back. Would you want to buy those parts as new if already used as a swap and guess on someone else's?

We get that sometimes. Order a part, comes in, has finger prints all over the box. Some of the stuff is missing. We even got someone else's core a couple of times.

HT is right, without knowing which cylinders are missing, you won't know where to focus your diagnosis on. I have a strong feeling that you'll you'll end up swapping out the coils no matter what advice is given. Hope that it resolves your problem.
