Car loses a quart of oil in a months time
|

Please Help! My 2001 Toyota Solara is losing oil. Oil is not on the ground so there is no indication of a leak and there is no black smoke coming out of the exhaust so it's not burning oil quickly. The car is a four cylinder. I have faithfully been checking the oil every month and putting in a new quart every month so the dip stick shows full. My father says the defriential (spelling?) stick shows it has too much fluid (oil) in there and his theory is the oil is going there. The car is running regularly and there is no drag or any other issue in its performance. What can possibly be happening to the oil and what is the consequence of the defriential having too much.

I put the quart of oil where the oil goes. My other question was not a duplicate it was about a screeching sound at start up.

If your putting it into the right place and it's not leaking on to the ground anywhere or hitting the exhaust and burning off, then the engine would have to be burning it but the bottom of the car needs to be inspected first to eliminate any possibility of leaks.

The ground is completely dry underneath the car, that is why it seems like such a mystery. Is it possible for the oil to flow into another part of the car or is the only place it can go is the engine burning it ?

That's why I said the car needs to be inspected from the bottom to look for any indication of a leak.

check top and bottom of engine, if its not leaking anywhere, does it smoke, if not look in raditor or drain some rad fluid out..does it look like a milk shake or foamy or can you see oil in it if so, it is prob a blown head gasket

This question is a year and a half old. Look at the dates before you respond. If it's older than a month, leave it alone.
