Car issues...help Sign In

I own a 2003 Honda Civic LX. It currently has about 40,000 miles on it. I have put around 5000 on it since it was purchased 4 month ago. Since I have owned it the car has run perfectly until yesterday...
Yesterday I was running errands around town and had left one pit stop and was stopped by the light. When the light changed I tried to accelerate but it felt as if the car was being choked out. The electrical items in the car were fine (AC, radio) but the car lost all power. I drifted onto the side of the road and turned the car off then back on and it ran fine for a few minutes and was able to make it to my next destination. When I got back in the car it did the same thing and like before turning the car off and on seemed to help. It did this one more time and did not do it anymore that day.
...today I had some stop-and-go errands again and like yesterday it acted up with the usual remedy seeming to work. There have been no error codes hence nothing to register on the machine and it only wants to act up for me not anyone else I have had look at it or drive it around....HELP!

You must have codes just not the code reader to find pending ones.

General with a low mile, now older vehicle. Need to take notice of time related services like belts (all) fluids that are done by time not just miles and the list in the owner's manual. Be up to date on all that stuff.

The battery itself will expire with time alone and connections can get weak/corroded. For this find out how old it is. IMO, a battery alone is only good if in use for about 4 years then surprises become lots more likely. Be proactive about battery, mark it's age by date of manufacture on it so you know.

Don't disconnect it for anything without a memory saver or info will be lost, may not run properly or well if you do for a while.

It's critical to have a known good battery all the time for almost anything. Old as you might think this is there are lots of things completely dependent on dependable power from it and delivery of it thru good well maintained cables,

Did the engine ever shut off? If it acts up again, you'll probably need to take it to your mechanic and leave it with them to see if they can duplicate your concern. Hopefully they are monitoring the right system when it messes up. Intermittent concerns are a PITA to figure out sometimes.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
