Car engine shakes violently and car cant accelerate Sign In

Hey everyone! I'm new here to the forums, so I want to start off by saying hi.

So I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy, and today while taking my girlfriend home I ran into some car troubles.

The "Service Engine Soon" light starting flashing and my car was making some wierd noise. So when I came to a stop at a red light and then started accelerating at green my car could barely move, so I turned it off then turned it back on and the same thing, it was moving, but moving very slow and it got just enough movement to get me into the nearest parking lot but it stalled once I got into the lot.

I then tried to accelerate and car's RPM and everything goes up and so does the MPH needle but the car doesn't move. Same thing when I put it in reverse. I also noticed the car was kind of shaking, so I opened the hood and the engine was shaking violently causing the car to shake from side to side. My dad came and we were trying to figure out what was happening, and he said when I hit the gas the engine would start evening itself out and it was only shaking when I wasn't giving the car gas.

Does anyone know what the issue could be? I've been told it is a bad misfire, but I want to be sure. Currently my car is still sitting in the parking lot of the store where it broke down lol. I'm going to have to towed today hopefully, but any help as to what the issue could be is greatly appreciated!

It appears that you have a severe misfire for some reason. That is the reason the check engine light was flashing and would have recorded which cylinders had the problem so that is where you would start, by getting the codes read so you can find the misfire problem. If you live near an AutoZone, they will read them for free. Be sure to get the code number from them.
