Car Wont start fuel pump stuck on

1992 Ford Taurus wagon gl 3.0L sohc 850000m Ok, Car turns over, Spark is good Fuel is good. Fuel pump is stuck on when key is turned on. I know it should shut down after 2 secs or so. When it was starting it would go in to a limp mode no power when pressing on gas but idled fine,it would come back to normal unless you turn the car off then it wouldn't start again with out letting it set. Now It turns over has spark but doesn't seen to be spraying gas. If some one can help you will have my thanks. Norm.

?? Fuel pump staying on is the clue. It should shut down when pressure is up to par OR with a time period of engine not turning - not sure which but either way a fuel pressure test will probably show there isn't adequate pressure. Toss a fuel filter in just because as a good measure and know that just doing that adds to first start issues till it's purged of air. Will this prime with starting fluid now? That also can help when replacing a fuel filter if they give you a hard time, T

I changed the filter when this problem first started along with other things that I know had nothing to do with it, but still needed replaced.

Fuel pressure reading is needed. I believe you can rent the tester. You hear the fuel pump so I/we need to know what the pressure if any is. It could be in a mode to disallow fuel injectors from pulsing. For now I'm trusting the spark is ok. Priming it would be telling if it is firing ok at all. A code reading would be handy and I suspect that's not real handy right now, T

Went out to day and got me a fuel tester and it climbs ever so slowly to 40psi.

(spec quoted)The fuel pressure should be 35-45 psi (241-310 kPa) for the 3.0L and 3.8L engines.(end quote) Ok - It can make it there but bet it falls right off when cranking for start. It may run again if primed for more testing or keep watching pressure while cranking also. With it taking so long to build up pressure it no doubt can't stay there to run engine so pump itself it probably the fault, T

I had to test the pressure again just to see if turning the car over made it drop, witch it doesn't also there is an adapter I have to use to hook the tester up to the fuel rail witch if you don't tighten it up all the way the pressor rises alot faster. Now i tested my other car just to see how it should be and as soon as you turn the car on the niddle jumps up to 45. any other ideas to test this out before I replace it.

The best way to check if you have fluid is to remove the pipe from the rail and insert into a bottle, then switch on the ignition key and the pump should skwirt fluid into the container. the pump should run for approx 5-10 sec and shut off this is a safety devise. If you have fluid go back to basics 1) Fuel 2) Spark 3) Cylinder Compression From what you have explained it sounds like air flow meter or blocked exhaust pipe Get someone to put there hand on exhaust pipe while turning over and make sure you have compression there Also one more thing to check just incase is to make sure there is no impact inertia switch on ot that needs to be reset
