The mechanic working on my truck tells me I need two "Cam Phaser" Sensors or Modules. He disconnects the sensor, drives the vehicle. It runs "sluggish" but smooth. When he connects the phaser, the vehicle runs "rough" if at all. he says the parts are over $500 and labor is $800 at dealership prices. My truck was wrecked a year ago, flipped on it's top, but ran great after. It sat for several months and not driven. Could this have something to do with the problem? It ran great and then suddenly stopped. They rarely fail and there are numerous other ways for codes to set concerning them. Loose timing chain or tensioner or even low oil pressure can do it too. If phaser replacement was a common occurance, the prices probably wouldn't be so high.
