Burning oil / smoke in the exhaust, 98 Civic Sign In

96 Honda Civix most common engine, manual transmission, well over 100,000 miles. The car was running ok until the oil was changed. All I did was pull the plug and filter to drain and then put on a new filter and the plug back. I put some Lucas oil stabilizer in with the oil and now if you let the car sit for a long time usually over night when you turn the engine on it smoke a little bit. If you press the gas either driving or neutral the car billows smoke, I am slightly color blind when it comes to blues but I am pretty sure it is white smoke but has a slight blue tint to it. When I say billows I mean anyone behind you would most likely have to stop moving, after the engine gets hot (about 20 mintues) the smoke goes away and you can let it sit for a few hours and it is still smoke free. The radiator is fine in fluid and the color of the coolant is light green still and not foaming. The oil is not white and not foamy, but there is considerably less oil than when it was changed last weekend. What would cause the oil to be burning all of a sudden after an oil change where nothing else on the car was touched?

I'm afraid you should have left well enough alone with the Lucas. With a high mileage engine like that, many of the valve seals were sealed with gunk that you have likely washed away now. At this point you might try a heavier oil and some STP oil treatment and see if that helps at all. Try a different brand of oil too.

Is there a brand you can recommend? I used Castor GTX. And I thought Lucas was going to help the seals?

There is nothing wrong with castrol but some cars just don't agree with some oils so just try something different and heavier to experiment. Make sure the PCV is clear and working.
You could have broken a piston or ring too.

It takes 5W-30 usually. What would be heavier that wouldn't be bad for the engine this summer?

10W30 is also accepted for that car.. I'd try that first. If you still have a problem, you might try some 10W40 in the summer only.
