Yep, I think we have a solution............. AUTO LEARN Time required, approximately 10 minutes: 1. Insure that the battery is fully charged. 2. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs. 3. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the CRANK position attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle will start and then stall. 4. Leave the ignition switch in the ON position while observing the security indicator. 5. When the security indicator turns off, which can take up to 10 minutes, turn the ignition switch off. Wait 10 seconds. 6. The BCM and the PCM will learn the new code on the next start attempt. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I am going to stay on the glass half full kinda view. I decided since the spark looked week to me I would go buy a new coil. When the parts store said they would check the ignition module for free, I said what the heck. They told me it was bad.... I bought new coil and new ignition module brought it home, drilled out the rivets on the old coil then replaced the ignition module. NOW? I turned the key on....no fuel pump noise, no fuel pressure. I am not trying to complicate the issues, just telling everyone what I am going through. As I am sitting in the truck trying to figure out what the heck is going on I noticed that the security light no longer flashes after I try and start it. The light comes on when I turn the key on but goes off after a couple of seconds and I never see it again. NO CLUE..... On the brighter side? It is doing something new and I get to trouble shoot that tomorrow! This is going to be AWESOME when WE figure this out, hahaha

Just wanted to recap - 1999 Suburban 7.4 L or 454 cu in Had motor rebuilt by machine shop (long block), installed myself, now won't start sat for about 2 years or so before I had it rebuilt replaced, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, crank sensor, cam sensor, ignition module, coil, checked for spark at all plugs, fuel pressure between 55-58 with key on, 60 when cranking (used to be) Now no fuel pressure, will look at that tomorrow Security light comes on when I turn key on then goes off after a couple of seconds, never see it again - no blink or anything FOR SURE initial setup of distributor is correct - thanks to Hammer Sorry if you guys are getting sick of my posts but it's nice to have your input. Let me know if I can put anymore info here to help.

Hammer, saw your post there. Once I figure out there was a second page to this string, (sometimes I don't know about me) I put the new parts I got in and now no fuel pump noise when I turn the key on. I am going to go try and trouble shoot or should I try your AUTO LEARN deal?

If your security light isn't flashing, then you don't need the auto learn. I don't know how you ended up here but it sounds like you should be testing all your fuses.

Feel like I am typing a diary. At least I am back to where we started. No fuel pump = I need to watch where I put my knees when I am kneeling on top of the motor. Found one of the plugs on the PCM slightly unplugged, pushed it in and away we go. Yes I know you don't have to tell me, the ignition module and the coil didn't have anything to do with it but what the heck, it kept me busy until people type me back. **I am trying the AUTO LEARN thing now.... wish me luck Truck cranks over and begins to take off, then dies. I think it ran a half a second longer this time? hahaha Wife says I can't play with any of my other toys until I get her "baby" running.

Hammer - the security light doesn't flash all of the time but it does probably flash like 4-5 times after I try to start it..... Sorry I am such a rooky, you must have incredible patience? I saw that you are the one who posted the rules for this site, is it your site or you host it?

No, it's not my site. I'm just an administrator. We're starting to run in circles here. If the security light flashes at all when trying to start the truck, do the relearn.

Yes, I am sorry. I did go backwards there for a little bit because of my carelessness and partially unplugging one of the PCM connectors with my knee. The security light flashes at me 4-5 times after I try to start it and it dies. I followed your instructions to the letter. 1) Battery fully charged, charged over night 2) Plugged in scan tool, no codes 3) Turned ignition switch from the off position to crank, started and died 4) Left the ignition switch on and the security indicator flashed 4-5 times 5) I tried this several times, one waiting for an entire 10 minutes and one just waiting until the light quit flashing 6) Each time, I then turned the key to off, waited 10 seconds, then tried to start 7) Each time it starts then dies and flashes the security light 4-5 times and goes out. I did check the fuel pressure again and it is 55-58 when I turn the key on and around 60 when it tries to start and die. I do have spark at multiple spark plugs Again sorry for the confusion, I think we are on the same page now.

If the security light is still flashing, then you still have a security problem. If the 10 minute relearn didn't resolve that, try the 30 minute which is just repeating the process 3 times. If you still can't stop that light from flashing after that, then you have a component failure in the security system, probably the sensor in the ignition switch. I can give you a way to bypass that sensor if necessary.

Hammer, glad you haven't given up on me yet. I will go try the 30 version again but I am starting to think I might have component problems like you said. Remember I said it sat for about 2 years? I have been trying to do a bunch of research and it seems corrosion or moisture affects these contacts/units quite a bit, could of had plenty of that, I live in the NorthWest. If you could fill me in on the bypass, that would be awesome. There is SO much crap on this internet, people just throwing whatever at people. I really appreciate your guys forum here. I found a youtube video of exactly what my truck is doing, right down to the security light blinking 4-5 times then it going out. The link is below if you wanted to check it out. If you want some real entertainment you can read all of the goofy peoples posts, most of them make no sense. Links not allowed

PASSLOCK SENSOR BYPASS Look for the black wire and the yellow wire from the passlock sensor in the column, cut the wires and you can solder in a 2.2 K ohm resistor connecting them together and then attempt to start the car.It will stall don't turn the ignition off.Let the ignition on for ten minutes or until the theft light goes out.Turn the key off for ten seconds then attempt to start the car.If it now runs you have been successful. If it doesn't you either made a mistake or there are other problems besides the ignition lock cylinder.

Just the top cover to expose the wires. The wires you are looking for are very thin, going into the ignition lock.

You want yellow and orange/black on that year. Make sure you're using a 2200 ohm resister ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hammer - I think you found the solution, I just need to go find a 2,200 ohm resistor now, don't worry I can handle that part. (I am an Electrician) Oh by the way, I got a little redneck on you. I was desperate to here this thing run and it crossed my mind that it says the security system shuts down the fuel supply. Well, I walked over to the barn and grabbed a can of starting fluid and you guessed it. I had the wife try and start it while I squirted a little in there, it kept running as long as I gave her some little spray bursts. Hope I didn't mess anything up in there but it seemed to run fine.... **I was really proud of the wife telling me that she noticed the security light blinking the whole time it was running. (about 15 seconds or so). I will post back here when I find me a 2,200 ohm resistor and get it put in.

There is a little black piece molded onto those wires about an inch from where the connector goes into that lock cylinder, which side should I be on when I splice that thing in? In between the connector shown in the picture and that piece or the other side?

Found one! Headed out, still going to try and get this working tonight. It's only 4:15 here. Do I have to do the re learn thing again once I get this in?

Yes, definitely. Leave enough wire on the switch side to put this back if you ever want to. Just to be clear, the resister goes in the harness side of the wiring. If it doesn't stay running after the first 10 minute sequence, leave the key on and repeat the process 2 more times.

Also, make sure you are soldering these wires to the resister. Heat shrink and tape would be good when finished.

DONE - It fixed it, (the resistor) starts and runs like a dream. Had to go through a couple of the 10 minute cycles to get there. I have had a few cocktails to celebrate, so I won't be long winded here. I will post a summary here tomorrow because I have learned and debunked a couple of the things that people have put on the internet. **Well done Mr. Hammer, thank you for hanging in there with me!! PS - My wife said that it has actually been 3+ years since this thing died. She is offering up homemade blackberry jam or anything else she can think of. She is super excited to have the "Family Wagon" back. We now have 5 grandkids to haul around.
