Okay. So i bought a 99 jimmy that was not running and attempted to repair it. the previous owner did plugs and wires. i checked for spark and there was none. i researched the problem and it turns out a lot of the time it's the ignition module, so I had that tested And it turns out that it was bad. So I replaced that. After replacing the ignition module, it would start for a second but not stay running. I noticed that the cap on the distributor was broken. Turns out the screw hold that held the cap down was broken and the only way to repair it was to replace the distributor... So that's what I did. I researched as much as I could about replacing distributors and I found a detailed video on YouTube that I followed. i tried to follow that as best i could. after getting it all installed,. I got some starter fluid because the car sat for a long time and sprayed a good bit in the air intake. i tried starting it and flame blew out of the intake along with a Big Bang (scared me pretty good) Is my timing off? Is it something I did wrong installing my distributor? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Yep, sounds like you have the distributor installed in the wrong position. Apparently you didn't mark the old one before removing it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
