99 chevy suburban slow start, acts like dead battery Sign In

I have a 1999 chevy suburban 5.7 V-8 that has recently started acting like the battery is weak. Engine a little slow to turn over when cold, but will crank w/out problem once it turns over. Once engine gets hot/warm, is slower to turn over/crank. Odd to me, that it cranks better cold than after warmed up. I installed brand new battery, same issue. Starter is relatively new as well, not the problem. ---- The suburban cranks fine when it does turn over, does not appear to be any problem w/getting fuel or anything. --Best way I can describe it is it acts like you are trying to crank a vehicle that has a battery that is almost dead. Runs fine after it cranks, no other issues. It has never "not cranked" due to this problem, just acts such that I'm afraid I'm going to go some where & it not crank up when I start to crank it.Crazy

How did you conclude that the starter is not the problem here?

Have you checked all the cable connections?

Guess I should say, I assume the starter is not the problem.---only driven it about 7,500 miles since installed. I'll double check the connections. ---Based on my description/symtpoms, if there is a problem associated w/the starter, you think it would be the connections or the starter itself? ---- If not starter associated, what would be your next guess?
Thanks for your reply --

When a car acts like that it means that the starter doesn't have sufficient current to crank the engine fast enough. This can be that not enough current is being delivered to the starter or it can be that the starter is just requiring too much. The way you determine this is start out by testing the battery and once you know the battery is good, then you test the starter amperage draw.

When the engine is warm and you are experiencing the problem, disconnect the coil wire from the distributor cap to see if makes a difference. (over advanced timing, carbon buildup?)

Loren,
This truck uses a crank sensor so bad base timing is not possible and I haven't seen a case of carbon tightening in 20 years.

Come on back to the 21st century ........................LOL
