99 GMC Truck - No Fire Sign In

Got a 99 GMC Z-71 4-WD pickup, 5.7 L, as I was driving the other day it starting missing really bad, so bad that I thought I had a flat tire. As I pulled over on the shoulder of the road I noticed it was just the engine running really bad, bad enough that change in my ash tray was shaking. Limped back home and on the way stopped at an Auto Zone and asked them to scan for codes. Code came back as a mis-fire on cyl #2. I just replace all plugs, plug wires, rotor button, and distrib cap about 2 months ago. I went ahead and bought new wires again and replaced all wires, no change, cranked, but ran really rough. I removed the crank position sensor, wiped it off with a towel and replaced and the truck has not fired since. Removed #1 plug and checked for fire, none. Check rotor button and distrib cap and found nothing that would be of concern. Borrowed a used coil from a friend and hooked it up, no fire. Bought a new crank position sensor and installed it, still no fire. Got another scan and now it shows code of p0336, crank position sensor.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated as to what to try next.

Sounds like you had an unknown problem with a single cylinder and now that you messed with the crank sensor, you have knocked out all cylinders. Something you did to the crank sensor is preventing it from starting.

Hammer Time thanks for the reply. I was told by somebody else that I couldn't just replace the CPS, it had to be synched or the master computer reset, something to that effect, any truth to that?

Yes, there is a variation learn process but it has to be running to do that.
