99 Chevy Bazer NOT starting

99 Chevy Bazer NOT starting Sign In

SO, i have a 99 Blazer, it runs great, but lastnight, it wouldnt start. It turns over fine, just doesnt seem to be getting gas. It DOES start when I use a small spray of starting fluid in the throttle body, but dies soon as that burns up. I let it sit overnight, and this morning, it started right up, took kids to school with no problems. then i parked, let it sit for 30 minutes, and now it wont start again.. same problem as lastnight.. Any suggestions? thanks!! James!~!

You've pretty well nailed it to a lack of fuel issue. Now if you can when it's acting up see if you can even hear the fuel pump pre pump (buzz sound) at all when key is turned to "run" position. If nothing we need to chase down power supply issue possibilities.

If it does "prime up" then a fuel pressure reading is needed as the exact pressure is important.

The trick of course is checking things when it runs perfectly as you said probably won't reveal a problem so you will no doubt need to catch it in the actMad

So, if the fuel pump does prime up when the key is turned on, what next.. I think I recall my friends durango having the same problem, and it was his ignition coil. maybe?? and THX .. you just helped me get the heat fixxed in my truck just a little over a week ago.. told ya I'd be back!~James

If you don't have one go get an LED test light. General style above - Wally World has the damn things for under $5 bucks and less chance of backpowering anything and messing it up.

Follow and check where power should be. Any fuse, relay (think it's labeled underhood) just to see where you stand. There is a connector at the tank end that can corrode and be intermittent which is why they love to say you must replace pig tail wiring with a new fuel pump.

Relays are popular for intermittent bull and subsequent hair clumps being lost!

If you find power and a silent pump check backwards for grounds empowering the clip. Make sure it's something that's expected to be ground! That's where the LED can save your butt - AYOR anyway.

Other maybe things: There are safeguards to shut pump down when no RPMs are seen, low oil pressure, perhaps an enertia switch like in case of accidents. Puter may get proper bad info - more hair loss!

Codes may help and some waiting even if SES light isn't on.

Tricks: Rubber hammer on tank may snap a fuel pump to - again AYOR - be careful with crap like that of course.

Chase down the stream of power for now - you know it's not getting fuel,
