99 Chevorlet 1500 4.3 Fuel Problem Sign In

My 1999 Chev 1500 has the 4.3 V6, Auto trans, 2wd with 230k miles. Ran fin, parked it for three weeks and won't start on its on. It will run on either, but not on its on. I checked and It has 64lbs of pressure at the throttle body. However, Its getting spark like it should. Took off the module and had it checked at local parts store. Replaced it because the test came back bad. I see no changes. To me, it seems to not getting a signal to the injectors. I took it to the shop, they want me to go purchase the unit under the upper plentum with the injectors in it. I've never seen 6 injectors go bad at once. Is there something else that may be common on this engine which causes this problem? Thanks for all help. Smile

With those injector units there are 2 basic types batch fire-CPI & sequential-SCPI. CPI has one injector & 6 or 8 poppets. SCPI has 6 or 8 individual injectors.... Yours should be scpi. With cpi it's very common for an injector to cause a no start. While not as common on scpi, it is possible for one injector to short out & take out the pulse....

GM has a problem with both these systems, commonly referred to as a "spyder". While the scpi system the injectors can be replaced individually most shops prefer to change out the whole unit due to the problems with injectors & regulators.

From a customers stand point, you wouldn't be to happy paying for 1 injector only to find out a month later a misfire that just popped up is due to another faulty injector or leaking regulator. Some shops might take the gamble but a lot don't, the failure is too high. I've seen these injectors go bad with just intake gaskets getting changed where the upper plenum wasn't removed....

I don't know if this helps or not but this just a little info on a fuel system with a couple of known problems....

As far as the no start, it's possible, not as common as the cpi systems but still possible. I'm not sure what tests they ran to confirm this

Thanks for the information, wasn't really sure about the shops decision. I see a new point of view and will pick up the parts tomarrow. I'll repost any new news. Thanks again. Smile
