99 Hyundai Accent, manual transmission, stock 1.5L v4, 90000 miles

I've owned the car for about a month, during which time it had been running just fine. A week ago, the check engine light came on and the engine shut off while I was slowing down to go around a corner. After about twenty minutes, it started up again with no stuttering or odd noises. It drove for about ten minutes and once again stopped while slowing to turn, and again started up fine in a few minutes.

I found out via an electric diagnostic tool that there was a problem with the crankshaft position sensor. Being poor, I tried just taking out the sensor and cleaning the poles to see if that would solve the problem, which it did for a couple days. After some more driving and tinkering around, it seems that the car only dies when coming to a stop, and only once it's reached a certain temperature. I've been keeping an eye on the temperature gauge and it only dies above a certain spot. Plus having the heater on full blast does noticeably improve the driving time before it shuts off. Also, I found out that I can bump-start it immediately after it dies, but it will die again as soon as I slow down too much.

I don't have a way to test if the crankshaft sensor is faulty or not, but does it seem reasonable to assume that is still the problem given that the car only dies when slowing and above a certain temperature? Is there anything else I should be looking for that would cause the engine to stop under these conditions? I'm not too sure, but I think I can rule out any problems with the battery or fuel supply since it accelerates reasonably well and starts with no problems after having not been driven for a while.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You stated that the vehicle was scanned and a code for a fault in the crank sensor circuit . Now you can poke and hope and change the sensor ,maybe ...maybe not . There is no backdoor way of testing it. SO you roll the dice or go to a shop and have it verified and replaced. Getr hooked up with a reputable shop and you will come out ahead in the long run. Parts aint gettin any cheaper.
