You could have a vacuum leak or a sticky IAC (idle air control motor). The IAC can be cleaned which is a common problem. Does the idle come down, eventually, as the engine warms? But, if you don't know, my apologies. The CEL being illuminated is telling you that the computer has picked up a fault in one of the many systems that it monitors. The computer will then set a trouble code that will tell which system is seeing a problem. Most parts stores will retrieve the code(s) for you. Don't let them sell you any parts. Just get the codes and post them for us to see; Then, we can go from there.
