my 98 grand prix gtp starts then stalls within 5 seconds. it will do this every time. starts like normal but can't keep it running. you can hear the fuel pump shutting down each time. no engine code.

I’m not sure of why the engine is shutting off after a start; there are quite a few reasons that could be causing this. But if you mean that you’re hearing the fuel pump shut off after the stall that’s normal; no RPM signal the computer will turn it off. I’m not saying that the fuel pump isn’t the problem either; just by hearing it running (fuel pump) (or not) electrically doesn’t mean that mechanically it’s producing the proper pressures at the proper times.
So I guess what I’m saying is that the vehicle needs to be connected to test equipment to find out who’s not doing what it’s suppose to be. The list of could be’s is just to long to list and if I tried I would likely miss the thing that it would/could be.

I just got my car back from the shop. He found a resistor for the fuel pump was bad/broken casing. It was tucked in behind the battery and washer bottle under wheel well. In other words hard to get to. The resistor had no resistance which burned out the ECM. When he ordered the new resistor it came as a modified kit so now it has to be mounted on the firewall and rerouted. They must have had some problems with these going bad where it was mounted.
