98 ford explorer 4.0l acting like it is going into passing gear

ran across a ford explorer a friend of mine wanted me to fix when you first start it up and take off when it goes to shift from second gear it acts like it tries to go into passing gear for a second and then shifts to 3rd gear so i changed transmission filter and fluid it seemed to help but it still does this also when you push the button on the gear shift for over drive the light on the dash doesn't come on and the back up lights doesn't work i have checked all of the fuses under the hood and at the door panel and none of them are blown  any ideas?
