98 chevy s10 wont start
|
|
|
i have a 98 chevy s10 4.3 V6, it had died on me a couple of times and had autozone check it while the check engine light was on and they said it was the crankshaft position sensor. they said it was an easy fix, just take the old one out and put new one in. well im not a mechanic, so i just did what they said and now my truck wont even start. i cant afford a mechanic and without my truck i cant get to work, so can anyone help me figure it out?

Apparently you did something wrong or damaged something. You may not have much option left beyond towing it to a shop. By the way, have a code for a specific component does not mean that component is automatically bad. It merely means there is an issue in the circuit somewhere that needs to be found through further diagnosis. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You already tried and made it worse. I don't know what you did to cause that.

I already gave you the only suggestion I have and that was to get help. There is no way I can see from here what you did wrong. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

all i did is take the old one out and put the new one in, not sure how i could have done anything wrong, i know it has to have the relearn done, but from what everyone has told me it should run, just not as good as it will after the relearn.

Instead of coming on here and being a complete ass and just automatically saying that something was done wrong why not give some constructive advise. Obviously you don't know a whole lot more or you would be able to give better suggestions!!!! Not that hard to pull one out and put a new one in. Doesn't take a genious

Do you still have the old sensor? Inspect the wiring and connector terminals for the crank sensor really good. Make sure that your wiring isn't broken underneath the insulation near the end of the connector and make sure your terminals aren't spread open. If you have the old sensor, put it on there and see if the engine starts. Could have a defect. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

thank you for actually giving me some ideas discretesignals. i checked for loose connections and checked all the wires, couldnt find any problems there. put the old one back on and it started for a min then died and now im right back to not starting at all. started checking other stuff and figured out i dont have any spark, so upon advice from other people i have replaced the ignition coil, ignition module, distributor cap and button, and the camshaft sensor. still not getting any spark. all the shops around here want to charge me a fortune to have it towed to them and to fix it. i have spent way more than i have to spend. dont want to keep throwing money at it for nothing.
