98 caviler engine problems

i have a 1998 chevy caviler with a 2.2L with 150,000 miles on it. The other night we started to hear a clanking sound. It sounded like the exhaust heat sheild rattling but about 30 seconds later the car started slowing down and would not accelerate anymore. It will not turn over or any thing can anyone help?

Did anybody check to see if the engine has oil in it?
Just a thought,maybe if no oil, the engine locked up...
Does it have any electrical/battery power or not?.
Another possibility is the serpentine belt tensioner /belt came off,alternator stopped charging.lost battery power..
Another possibility,alternator locked up...can keep an engine from turning over...
Just some ideas/thoughts that came to mind..hard to say without being there.
