98 Saturn SCII Engine

Hi there, I have a 98 Saturn SC2 coupe, that began running very rough, then died. Upon inspecting the engine I found a small hose had become disconnected. The trouble is I can't seem to reconnect it. It barely reaches the obvious place is should go, and won't stay in place. I am wondering if there was another piece on the end of the hose that broke and is now missing, perhaps why the trouble started. I believe the hose is part of the vacuum/air filter system, but not sure. Here are pics:
