98 Olds Intrigue.. Were on slight incline, car began idling very rough, like it was missing. Got to destination, car wouldn't start. Towed home, replaced spark plugs, And a coil that had been bought from scrap yard. Did start briefly but white smoke. After reading some posts on here, replaced module. Still won't crank. Help....

Back for a second. Does the engine crank but not start or not crank at all? Must know that for a beginning. You said it did start but with white smoke but where? Need more info............. T

Took out your phone # - trust me you don't need the world seeing that. All crank no start: Need the terms right. Find out what is missing usually it either lack fuel delivery or no spark. Narrow it to one and can work on approach for that. Other things can do that but rule in or out at least that much for now, T

No - you don't just toss plugs you test things out and I sense you don't know how. This is copy pasted at this site by Hammer Time here as to the process for "All Crank, No Start" situations. If you can't check those advise us what you lack in test ability or equipment. This may not be for you? ______________________________ All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment. If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money. Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for. These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause. 1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on. 2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on. 3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off. 4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test. Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out, you will know which system is having the problem. _________________________________________ T

Was there any type of trauma before this happened like overheating or running too low on oil? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The car has had an over heating problem, but wasn't running hot UNTIL the car started spitting and sputtering, the temp gauge started climbing and sure enough when I popped the hood the fans weren't on.

Start preparing yourself for serious issues. You need to remove all the spark plugs and pressure test the cooling system. Sounds like you may have a blown head gasket.
