98 Chevy Venture Runs Rough and Dies Sign In

I have a 1998 Chevy Venture 3.4 v6. While driving 25mph on a flat area my oil pressure light came on. The car immediately started running really rough and died within seconds. I have run a Diagnostics on it and came back with the P0300 Random/Multiple Misfire Detected and also P0442 EVAP Emission Control System Leak. I know the latter can be as simple as a bad gas cap and am not worried about it.

What I am wondering is this... The oil Pressure Light is not going off no matter what I do. I have tried turning the car on and removing the wire yet it stays illuminated. I am pretty sure that is bad. I know there is a protection that creates a misfire when oil pressure drops below a certain level. Can a short in my harness somewhere be causing the oil pressure light to come on and in turn cause the computer to think I have no oil pressure and prevent my car from running properly?

If so, is there anywhere I can look to narrow the possible points of said short to make the repair easier? Also, should this kind of error be showing on my OBD2 Reader?

Run a compression check on #5 & 6 cyls. It they're zero or very low, pull the frt valve cover & watch the rocker arms while someone cranks it.

If #6 arms don't move then you have a broken camshaft. It would account for the multiple misses & no oil pressure at the same time....

There are other things that could cause this problem as well but the 3.1s & 3.4s are good for breaking camshafts, especially if they ever had an intake gasket fail & water was ingested.............

I'm not sure where you got the idea the PCM will create a "miss fire" due to low oil pressure but that info is inaccurate...

You have to be misreading something there. It won't say that.
