Okay before start I don't have any error codes as I don't know how to read the codes or how to get them. Anyways truck was running good for a long time then it started to shift abit rough so figured needs trans checked as has been while, and shock are needing checked but thats not the big problems. Its a V6 engine and when running it'll start howling really loud. I'm guessing its something in the air line, but before could check on that the engine started shaking really bad like it was misfiring. Well checked it come to find out one of the plug wires were resting on the exhaust and burned it just about in two so got dad to change it he's the mechanic but is kind of a cheap skate when comes to fixing something and instead of fixing it right then and there he'll do everything he can to delay fixing it by like putting tape of it or well sure you people know what I mean. Anyways we replaced the wire with a cheaper brand and it was still shaking bad. He of course checks this by slamming the gas and reving the engine to like 4000 rpm and is like i can't feel it and when test driving he dogs the hell outta it so of course he's not feeling the shaking. i get in sit down and crank it and its still shaking. I give it alil gas and it get worse, put it in gear hold break and give it gas whole truck is shaking. He said he checked the plug and seen if it wasn't firing though knowing him he pulled it looked at it to make sure its gapped right, but at times he will cut corner when fustrated which he was this morning. Could the misfiring due to the wire have caused something inside to go wrong or thrown off the whole plug set. The engine once again is a V6 I can't remember what auto store said it was a standard?. I know the 8th digit in the vin is an X and that tells the type. Anyways what else could be the cause of such a bad shake? It's been I think like 50,000-75,000 since its last tune up, but I don't think thats the case. Should I attempt to fix this or just take it down and get it checked as I'm need to get the trans fluid changed and shocks checked anyways and when I test ran it today the check engine light which is normally on started flashing just before turning it off.

Any engine missing one of six is going to object. You found a wire and replaced that one but while it was down it could have fouled the plug or other wires may be an issue as well. Dist cap or coils if used may have taken a hit too.

If not yet it will throw a hard code but there should be one waiting for you know to help with the fix. 75K since a last tune-up on now a 13 year old is plenty to warrant going thru tune up items IMO,

Do as Tom suggests on the maintance items.. Call around to some parts stores, some will pull codes for free.. The flashing SES light isn't good, that indicates that a catalyst damaging condion is occuring. I would also take a good look at the coil pack, make sure all cylinders have spark.

One other note.....The SES light shouldn't "always be on" Wink

Thanks I'll see if one can pull the code and the check engine light is the one that normally comes on when theres an emmision issue but yeah when it flashes its bad.

It's not just emissions issues that make that light come on.
