97 cavalier clutch problem.. maybe?

97 cavalier clutch problem.. maybe?

97 cavalier manual transmission 75k miles
Recently when i try to shift its difficult. It is hard to shift into the gears. It is especially hard to downshift. When i put it in reverse it makes a LOUD grinding noise. Also when i brake or accelerate it sometimes makes a grinding noise aswell.
Does anyone have an idea of whats wrong?

Sounds like the clutch is not disengaging fully. This would most likely be a linkage problem that just might be adjustable to rememdy. Is this hydraulic or cable linkage? If you don't know look for a second master cylinder similar but smaller than for the brakes and if so it's hydraulic and bet you find the fluid low. If that's it so far fill to full mark with usually DOT 3 brake fluid or as recommended on the cap or in manual. If it's a cable set up let me know and I'll try to suggest ways to check and adjust it.
That may solve it for a while or not but it indicates a leak. It can also fail without leaking and you may need help with that.
Either way it's a disaster to your transmission so should be tended to - ah - like yesterday!
The noises while braking or accellerating are probably a different problem.
Again - I think this is two problems and both are very important,
