96 jetta won't start Sign In

I have a 1996 Jetta started it one morning ran for 2 minutes and quit. It wouldn't start for days, tinkered with it called the tow truck to come pick it up 3 days later. He got there and the car started. Ran all that day fine until that evening quit again and won't start back up. Now the car will turn over all you want but won't start not getting fire.Checked the timing belt changed plugs any advice

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be test during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.

Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.

2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

ok heres an easy way to check to see if your fuell
pump is bad or not get a can of starting fluid ok
now you want to take off the air filter housing and
look for the hole in there and in the hole i want you
to spray no more than 2 seconds of spray in it!

while and this part is "very important" while you have someone
crank the engine over at the same time your spraying
starting fluid in it if it starts and runs for a few seconds after

that what you determined is the engine is starving for fuel
and by spraying starting fluid in it your substatuting
fuel wich the engine is starving for if this is your case
you need a "fuell pump"

What if his problem is no power to the injectors? Wouldn't that act the same way?
