I have a 95 thunderbird with 4.6 sohc and 95,000. I have upgraded the car in many ways. Cold air, 24 lb injectors replacing n19lb. port and polished intake plenum, 4.10 gears, electric supercharger and underdrive pulleys. removed cats and have 2.5 inch true dual mandrel exhaust with x pipe. i am not running either of the post cat 02 sensors. I blew my intake gasket about a month nago and replaced it but since then my car has been getting leaner and leaner till now when you start it, it idles okay for about 30 seconds then you hear it load up and die out. hit the accelerator and it chokes at first then will rev but sickly . try driving it and its like you only have 6 cylinders working and the smell of too much fuel in exhaust is strong. replaced fuel pressure regulator. has absolutely no vacuum leaks. maf sensor replaced too. put egr valve out of 95 mark 8 lsc initech motor and same exact thing, switched them back and yesterday , replaced ecm. still not right. possible that it is egr still? trouble codes only about lean bank 1 and 2 and o2 heater faults. almost seems like timing problem but am running out of money and patience now. what next? havent seen egr be so major of problem at cold start and warm but maybe the problem? timing chain? let me know if i've left any important details out.

steven77: YOU have not upgraded anything but rather screwed it up. Think. It probably cost 10 billion to make the engine and crap aftermarket doesn't have that budget but will sell you anything,

so what would you do? leave it all stock? how have i screwed it up? cold air and exhaust are the first things to do for horsepower gains. better injectors and gearing is a bad thing? keep your negative unhelpful comments to yourself please.

Hey, the only guy that benefited from you buying all those parts was the guy that sold them to you. You're just wasting money and screwing up the operating system.

Put it back to stock or OE - you can't mess with this car like the 50s or some 60s and few 70s then forget it! Not young anymore. Had cars that would blow the rocks off of that POS!

what a helpful sight you make this. did i say it was a hotrod? Its the same motor thats in some cobras and police interceptors and many other fast cars as you obviously must know. you dont act or give advice like some pro who has a duty. i think you make yourself sound ignorant actually. i've seen plenty of birds from this generation that smoke most anything on the road fyi. if you dont know whats causing this problem, thats ok. i can assure you that i dont just need to put it back to stock to fix this. I am young and trying to build this car into a bad boy. you say it cant be done then say no more

this car is run by computers as i will assume you know. those computers have been programmed to run with the equipment given to them, for the best performance, and fuel economy. when you mess with something that has as many sensors, and inputs as those computers do, you mess up the whole running of the car. cold air intakes dont work, computers compensate for them. exhaust can mess with systems, by A. not having the oxygen sensors included in the system, causing the vehicle to think it is running too lean, so it over compensates, and gives more fuel, but its not going to give you horsepower, just drain your gas gauge faster, and B not the right amount of backpressure. bolts are just that there for looks. as for your injectors, your just messing up again, because your already running rich, and now youve got bigger injectors injecting more fuel into a cylinder that is already rich. your supercharger is causing more strain on other engine components because its another belt driven accessory, that has not been compensated for. it runs the battery down more and causes the alternator to work harder. port and polished gives more airflow, but its obviously not enough. gears are meh, cause the engine to work harder to turn it. gear it too much and your gonna snap the driveshaft. did i miss anything? hammer tom? i may not be right on this stuff but i sure as hell think i am. prove me wrong, i like to learn.

I agree 100% with everything you said!
If you want a fast newer car then buy one thats fast from the factory, cars today are much harder to hotrod up then the ones from 30+years ago.
And you need to change the stock computer settings to make the mods work which none of the cheap azz ricer moders do.
Making a newer car faster takes ALOT of money and know how, And i don't have alot of money to waste so i just keep my newer cars stock for the most part.
I have a 88 mazda MX-6 turbo GT that someone did a bunch of cheap mods to it and now i have to hunt down the OEM stuff (like the air box and the waste gate for the turbo which is hard to find) to make it right again, it just makes me mad when people do that to cars, If they wanted a easier car to mod they should have bought a old 60's mustang or camaro.
