'95 Nissan Pathfinder stalls when letting off gas.. PLEASE HELP! Sign In

Ok: this is my Original post from Sept 29th:
I have a '95 Nissan Pathfinder (6 cyl; 4 wheel drive) -- My car stalls whenever I let off the gas or step on the break. If I'm stopped at a light it sometimes idles and vibrates at the zero RPM--then proceeds to stall. It also produces a funny smell when this happens. I took it to the shop and it was deemed that nothing was wrong with it. I've done the fuel treatments and replaced the gas cap and neither has worked--any ideas as to what may be wrong?

Note: this has been going on for a few weeks now and it only happens when the car is warm. The O2 sensor has already been replaced and we have reset the computer--no dice.

This is the Original answer from Hammertime:
Sounds like you could have an EGR valve sticking open at idle. This could be due to chunks of carbon getting caught in the pintle, a defective EGR valve or a defective vacuum control solenoid.

I would say the next time it happens at a place where you can work on it, shut it off and immediately remove the EGR valve and inspect it to see if it's stuck open or not.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is going on now:

We disconnected the vacuum hose and it worked well no problems till this past Monday.. now it's back to the same story.. but now it runs funny even if it's not warmed up yet. What should my next move be?

It should be the same move that you were given in the first answer. Remove the EGR valve and inspect it to see if it's closed all the way.
