95 Lumina 3.1 still not running Sign In

On November 20 I posted that my APV stopped running. I replaced parts based on the trouble codes, and nothing.

I took the beast to Mr. Goodwrench. They found nothing mechanically wrong and suggested I change the ECU. I did.

NOTHINGMad

The engione fires under cranking conditions. If I crank long enough, the engine warms up and will idle. But, step on the pedal and, "POP, POW, POOF, PFFT, THLUMP, , , then nothing.

Mr. Goodwrench decided on the ECU because the timing was retarding and advancing improperly. I suspect that it wasn't the ECU after all, but the EST (Electronic Spark Timing). However I haven't the faintest idea where that is. (Back in the day there was a vacuum advance on the distributor).

Once again the new enginie stuff:
  • Coil
  • Distributor
  • Spark-plug wires
  • Spark plugs
  • MAP
  • TPS
  • Fuel filter

Anyone out there with a solution?

I just installed new bearings, tie-rod ends, brakes, ball joints, in addition to the engine stuff. I'm not prepared to see these new parts go the scrap yard.

I went back thru your old post and I guessed I missed it but didn't see any posted codes.....

Fuel pressure looked good. At this point I would like to see a vacuum reading @ idle & high rpm and a backpressure reading would be real helpful.

That is part of the ECU.

I think I would be suspecting the Mass Air Flow sensor for the current symptoms, assuming it has one. Some engine were using both MAP and MAF back then.
If it's a TBI engine, it probably doesn't have one.

According to this diagram, there is no MAF sensor. It is strictly MAP.

I suspected that. Alldata wasn't clear about it. It showed labor time for the part but no location. It's because it's a TBI 3.1. They only used that in the MPV, I believe.

Original Codes:
MAP, TPS , Vehicle SPeed Sensor.

MAP and TPS at the same time. I replaced the MAP and TSS after voltage tests. At this point I was able to start the engine, as described, but then got a VSS fault.

I've read that a faulty Park/Neutral switch would generate a VSS code. But, would that explain the symptoms?

The VSS is the vehicle speed sensor. That sensor is in the output shaft housing. I strongly doubt that will cause the problem.
