For those read the saga, 95 Lumina APV not running, here's the latest.

If anyone is interested in the solution to the original problem, here it is: Distributor rotor button. I went back to the beginning of the problems and tried to think of what could be causing the timing to jump around. First stop was the distributor. I took off the cap, and there was the rotor sitting at about 45 degrees, and bits of distributor shavings lying about. When installed, the rotor cap was not secured and finally losened up enough to jump off the arms and thereby change timing. Eventually, it just hooked on something and jammed into the side of the distributor, gouging the inside of the cap, creating the shaivngs. There is an arc burn on atop of the button which would explain occasional firing.

I replaced the cap and rotor and plugs (others were gas soaked), and started it right up. Boy I was releived. The idle seemed a bit high, but I thought that was because the engine was cold. It began to slow as the engine warmed up. It continued to slow. Then finally it slowed to a stop.

It turns over, but won't restart.

Any one have an opinion about this.

You need to redo the tests. Check for spark, fuel pressure, and injector pulse and post back with your findings.

Open up your distributor again. Make sure the metal tabs that the rotor mount on are straight. Leave the cap off and have a helper crank the engine while you watch the rotor spin at eye level. It MUST spin perfectly straight not wobbly or anything. If it isnt spinning straight bend the metal tabs until they look level. Put the rotor on and screw it down and test again. Find #1 cylinder TDC on the compression stroke and back the engine to match the mark on the dampener to the timing tab to the specified timing indicated on a sticker under your hood for a good starting point. Now put the cap back on making sure that the rotor is facing dead on or a tiny bit after the #1 spark plug point. Disconnect the electronic timing control and try to start and adjust timing. If that doesnt work you might need a distributor or to replace the pick up in the distributor as they can break easily sometimes.
