95 Ford Aspire hard to start & runs rough, no power

1995 Ford Aspire is running rough & has no power. car shut down. replaced timing belt, spark plugs, wires, cap & rotor. ran good for about 2 weeks & now it's hard to start & runs rough. has good fuel pressure, good spark, timing is good, no check engine light. any ideas? Possible distributor? How do I check the distributor?

I would suspect you are seeing a check engine light occasionally but even if you aren't, have it checked for any stored codes for a starting point.

No check engine light or stored codes...also checked compression..good. i heard distributors are known to go back on these cars. do u know how to test the distributor?

yes my son did..he borrowed a handle held universal scan tool. check engine light comes on when you start the car then goes out after a few seconds. it also comes on when the car stalls & the key is still on, which is normal. there is nothing in the system. replaced the battery 2 weeks ago, so if there was anything it's gone now & no new codes set since then. I even thought it might be a catalytic converter. disconnected the exhaust before the cat & no change. he just checked for codes on july 3rd. the car started acting up on June 30th. His scan tool only does odbII which is 96 & up.

This is a transition year with an OBD2 connector on an OBD1 system. You will not get any codes with a generic code reader. You're going to need someone that can at least recognize whether it's an ignition, compression or fuel problem. I can't do much for you without any data or test results.

I've already check compression...good on all 4 cyl....fuel pressure is good...I have a ford repair manual, but it doesn't shown me how to check the distributor, says to refer to another manual I don't have. do u know how to check the distributor? I don't want to spend $300+ without atleast testing it.

I want to know if anyone knows how to run diagnostics on the distributor. The Ford shop manual says refer to the Powertrain control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual section 8B for diagnosis of the distributor ignition system. I do not have that manual & have not been able to locate one, so I wanted to know if anyone knows how you check it.
