94 magna want start even with new starter motor Sign In

mate who is not not mechanically minded nor am i, couldnt start his car and he knew the battery was fine as lights and radio all worked so in desperation rang a mobile mechanic. he said it was the starter motor so replaced it. when he tried to start it the same thing just "click" "click". he then told him his engine must have seized up as he couldnt turn the fanbelt. on advice from a friend was told to take the spark plugs out and then try and yep!! could move it no worries. so with out having to tow it to a repairshop would anyone have any other things we could look at first before the costly move. thanks

Forgive my ignorance, but who makes the Magna? Ford, Chev, Chrys? It doesn't take much amperage to illuminate lamps or guages, but takes a whole lot to start a cold engine. Have the battery tested, even if, it has 12+ volts. (a fully charged 12V battery will have 13.2V) Another consideration would be connections. Both positive and ground (earth). It's entirely possible that you've got a defective rebuilt starter as well. If the motor can be turned over by hand, it's not seized.
