This is a 94 Lebaron GTC , 6 cylinder with 185k miles. Have had it since 127k miles. Got it at an auction put in rebuilt transmission and has been the most dependable car I have ever had. It still has plenty of power and compression reads average of 172 on 6 cylinders. Oil use is about a quart every 1500 miles. I have been advised that probably needs valve rebuild adjustment, but not sure if that will get rid of the smoking Want to know if valve job will stop or curtail the smoking

Fogging for mosquitoes eh?

Could be valve guide seals are hard a rock. Those are a big pain to change out because you have to remove the camshafts and valve train. Then you need to pressurize the cylinders with air and hopefully get the springs off using a spring compressor without dropping the keepers down into an oil return port.

You also need special clips that hold the lash adjusters inside the followers when you remove the valvetrain. You don't want those falling out.

I really don't think this would be much more than a band-aid fix with that many miles on the engine. Even doing a complete valve job would leave you with blowby past the rings.

Heck, just about every Dodge Caravan with the 3.0L MMC smokes. LOL That is what they were known for smoking and dropping valve guides.

The bottom end was built like a Sherman tank. If it wasn't for the valve guide and seal problem they had, the engine would have been bullet proof. If the engine was bullet proof, the whole van would have been bullet proof if it wasn't for the 41TE crapmission.

I still don't recommending doing a valve job to an engine with 185K and the seals won't last long without new guides.

I agree. I'd drive it till it blows and then put a long block in it if you want to keep it.
