engine stopping running. Restarted while coasting and stopped again. would not restart, drained battery. charged battery and started but it runs rough and it will not idle. once it starts i have to pump the gas pedal to keep it running but it still stops. changed fuel filter, plugs, rotor, cap and wires. thanks for any help!

First - use care trying to start a problem like this. If you cranked away enough to discharge the battery you probably damaged the starter motor which is insult to injury. For the problem at hand check for fuel pressure - bet it's low,

I tried the fuel spraying into the carb and the engine did pick up rpm, so I checked the fuel pressure w/ the gauge and it barely moved off of the "0", I would guess around 3 or 4 psi. It looks to be the fuel pump. Thanks for the help!!

Sorry you didn't find something cheaper as the trouble but it good that you found it. It's better than getting stuck somewhere which is always at the worst possible time.

An idea for readers that may help prolong the life of fuel pumps is to avoid letting fuel get low. I really think the temperature moderation of the fuel helps. My own vehicles (5) - 4 of them have electric fuel pumps and range from 11 to 60 years old. Ok the 60 year old doesn't have a fuel pump at all - it uses gravity! It may just be luck but in zillions of miles with lots of cars in the loop I have only had to remove fuel pumps to replace a rusty gas tank! None failed. None were allowed to run low on fuel!
