93 ford van lots of smoke

I took the thermostat out due to it not working right and after i mounted everything back up i noticed alot of smoke comeing from around that area now. if i replace it will that stop the smoke and help my heat problem?

It could be the heat issue. What is the model and engine size?? Econoline 4.9, 5.0, 5.8,7.5, Aerostar 3.0, 4.0??? If it is "smoking" from the T-stat area you could have a coolant leak. Spray it off with water and inspect for new coolant to appear. It could be from residual coolant from you replacing the T-stat.
