93 ford taurus sho half idle

i got a 93 sho starts just fine runs fine unless check engine light comes on then it idles at 500rpm instead of 1000rpm and drives a little under power but once it goes away all the power back and idles normal doesnt really have a pattern just comes on went it wants to please help its the family car its all we got
