There is smoke or steam emitting from a tube that runs from the oil fill to the air filter. Why is it doing this? Also as soon as I put it in gear it is dying. Anyone that could help it would be great thanks

That would be what is known as "blow-by". Check the PCV valve. The vacuum hose going to it may be plugged or leaking, or collapsed.(this will cause stalling, or at least poor idle quality) (With the engine running, put your finger on the end of the PCV valve. Should have enough suction to pull your mother in law through it. Just kidding). When this happens, crankcase vapors have no where to go, so they end up in the air filter. Fuel injection, or for that matter, carburetors don't like oil. Makes the engine run rich. With that many miles, it is possible that you may have worn or broken piston rings that are allowing more blow-by than the PCV system can
'handle'. I'm certain that you're going to need to replace the air & breather filters once you've got this fixed. I'd also recommend cleaning that throttle body because it's going to be rather nasty, too.

I changed the pcv valve today and it didn't seem to do much better but I didn't check the tubing. It is to late to do it now because I do not have a garage. But as soon as I am able to get out to it this weekend I will let you know. Thanks for the idea.
