i just replaced the thermostat in this its a 93 ford aerostar van 6 cylinder with a 3.0 engine. i changed the thermostat and now i noticed my radiator cap is loseing the water i put in. to start the van now you have to turn the key then beat the crap out of the sylenoid to start it. i know that needs fixed but the question is would those two problems make the van die while driving it. it does start to over heat from loseing the water so if i fix those problems should it stay running or is it something else?

Did it the engine die while driving before replacing the T-stat?
If your hitting the soleniod on the starter (you need a starter) it would have nothing to do with the engine dying.
If your talking about the soleniod up by the battery, there could be a loose connection. However it to would not cause a stalling problem eather. Unless the loose connection is on the side with more than 1 wire, even then maybe. The side with 1 wire runs to the starter only. The starting system has 2 soleniods, 1 on the starter and 1 near the battery.
Did you get the smoking problem figured out??
Does it run smooth, lacks power, anything abnormal other than stalling.
Does it restart as soon as you get the engine to turn over??
Loosing water from the cap could be a bad cap or an air pocket in the system.
Does the heater blow hot continously after the engine warms up?
Did you get the intake tube hooked up properly? An intake leak would cause a stall
Did you plug the sensor in the intake tube(near the airfilter housing) back in? This is the MAP sensor, if unplugged the computor will not know how much air is coming in. It will cause it to stall.
I suggest you go over everything that you removed to install the T-stat and look for anything you might have missed
