My 93 eclipse smokes if it idles for more than about 5-10 min, and only if it was driven and then stopped and left to idle. Sometimes it has the rotten egg smell and sometimes it doesn't. I was told the rotten egg smell was the catalytic converter, but if thats what was wrong then it would make the smell/smoke more often. I bought the car used, and the guy who had it before me abused it. It’s a 1.8 liter non-turbo FWD. It’s really nothing major but it’s on my checklist of things to fix, so I would appreciate any help.

What color smoke? The rotten egg smell was common when leaded fuel was put thru converters but lead isn't available anywhere I know of,

Something to do with the sulfur in the gasoline can cause rotten egg smell as well.

White smoke suggest coolant burning. Check coolant level carefully, pressure check system and look for contamination with engine oil too.

Generally color of smoke list..........

White = Water or coolant

Blue = Oil or transfluid which is an oil

Black = Unburned fuel

Not always but white leans towards head gasket problems,
