93 Chevy Truck 1500 Engine lopes at idle
I have a 1993 Chevy 1500 truck 2WD with a 5.7l engine. The problem is that its hard to start and while idling the engine lopes. It just started doing it. Check engine doesn't come on. The exhaust is terrible. It takes fuel when it is accelerated. I checked the timing it seems to be ok. Cap, rotor, plugs and wires are all good. Any ideas or where to start looking at? dlcarp

20 year old now and would first check out for vacuum leaks anywhere. Hoses, intake and throttle body, integrity of intake snorkeling thru air filter. Then and will go look now if I can find it see if CTS is the right ohms for actual engine temp, T (on edit for CTS aka ECS..... Hope that shows. If you can find temp via an infrared thermometer or with it out in water with known temps the resistance changes for fuel delivery. Plug at those can be a problem as well and available as a pigtail to solder in if the problem) Other pics of how things look and tested...... Whole unit with pigtail is not expensive just needs to be properly soldered in, shrink tube over splice - that if you thing or find this is the trouble at all....

Or you could just plug in a scanner a read the temp signal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Too easy to do in place with a $10 ohm meter to even drive to get it scanned for most who wouldn't have one. This vehicle isn't throwing a code yet on OBDI which it probably wouldn't so easily for this. It's just something to rule out. Wiring all along the way can also be involved if this checks so nothing @ 20 years old should be taken for granted, - T

Take off the air cleaner and look down at the throttle body with the engine running. Are the injectors spraying a fine misting pattern, or just dumping drizzle? Is one spraying more than the other?

Thanks guys for all the info and help. The problem ended up being the EGR valve was stuck open.
